SFPD Community Meetings Go Virtual

In a sign of the COVID-19 times, the San Francisco Police Department’s (SFPD) Community Meetings have gone virtual. To protect the health and safety of everyone who participates in the meetings, police stations have moved them from their typical brick-and-mortar locations into the virtual world of Zoom.

Participating in the SFPD’s Community Meetings is one of the best ways San Francisco community members can engage in community policing, and ultimately, help create a safer city.

SFPD stations hold their Virtual Community Meetings one time per month for their local police district and often schedule them in the early evening so that working adults are able to attend. The meetings also happen on a consistent day of the week (and usually, time) of the month, although that can change. Usually, the captain of each respective police station runs the Virtual Community Meeting.

“The meetings offer local residents and other community members an opportunity to interact directly with their local station leadership and stay updated about crime trends, police activities and pertinent news, as well as a chance for them to discuss issues that matter most to them,” said SF SAFE Executive Director Kyra Worthy.

So, how do you keep up with the dates, times and links for the SFPD’s Virtual Community Meetings? The best way to stay on top of the exact meeting dates and other related info is to subscribe to your local SFPD station’s newsletter or follow their social media accounts, where this info is posted in advance.
